Course Description

This unique practical course is an important part of The London School of Ultrasound FIRST TRIMESTER MARATHON. Early Fetal Scan (1st trimester anomaly scan) represents powerful tool for timely detection of large number of congenital anomalies. Structural anomalies are much more common than chromosomal syndromes and may represent significant threat to the fetus or even be lethal. In the last few years there were clear international tendention for transferring screening for severe structural defects to the 1st trimester. Countries like England, Netherlands, Sweden and US has developed or in progress of development of their national protocols for early fetal scanning.

It is well recognised, that ultrasound scan is an operator dependent technique. An expert anatomical scan in the first trimester, especially by transvaginal approach, can be technically very challenging for the operator and requires a special training. Our course will be the first on-line attempt for practical training for doctors, specialists in fetal medicine and specialists sonographers.

Dr Fred Ushakov has more than 22 years of experience in transvaginal fetal anatomical scans performed in the 1st and early 2nd trimesters and will share his experience.
