Course Description

We are proud to start our FIRST TRIMESTER MARATHON 2021 from the course for fetal medicine and perinatology specialists about an increased NT.

*

NT EXPERT: This course is absolutely NOT about how to get midsagittal view of the face, or how to place calipers. The course is designed for the specialists, seeing and counselling patients, which referred to them with an increased NT measurements.

*

Increased NT is undoubtedly the commonest fetal abnormality being referred to specialists in fetal medicine or perinatology in tertiary centres and private practices. In many cases the management of those cases is limited to discussion about increased chance of chromosomal anomaly and offer of CVS. Not so much attention is paid to thorough anatomical evaluation of the fetus before offering CVS. As a result, we have seen cases where CVS was performed for fetuses with lethal anomalies not associated with aneuploidy.

*

Dr Fred Ushakov will discuss why the management of the fetus with an increased NT in many cases is a the complex and challenging task. An expert early fetal scan of the baby before CVS or immediately after normal results of PCR/arrays play crucial role in timely diagnosis of non chromosomal anomalies. Unfortunately, current clinical practice demonstrates, that in many places of the world the anomaly scan and fetal echocardiography are delayed to 16-20 weeks, which result in unnecessary anxiety, stress and suboptimal management of babies with co-existent structural anomalies and especially heart defects.

*

During the course Dr Fred Ushakov will share his expertise and thoughts about the clinical challenges in the management of those difficult clinical situations, concluding his professional experience of scanning more than 1000 babies with NT’s between 3.5 and 25.0 mm at 11-13 weeks.

*

The course is pragmatic and practical with many presentations of challenging case .

We are sure, that this course will be extremely helpful for professionals, who scan and manage fetuses with increased NT.
